Holding cars back after games

Regarding the car/pedestrian situation on entering & exiting the car park (bit of a GMV reunion today with myself, Exile and IRVJ) after checking with the police and Mike Forsyth and Paul stumping up the cash, we bought 60m of chain with posts. We tried them in position earlier today, so they should be in place on Tuesday evening & they'll run from the turnstiles to about six foot away from the road (Holker St)
Whether it works or not is now down to people using the right side of the barrier, there's not much else that can be done other than hold cars back - which isn't ideal.

Some lights on that side would be good too - I asked someone about that 5 years ago after almost putting my foot in a big hole which is covered with a temporary piece of steel

The lights seem a bigger fix Charlie, trying to work something out for that.
Regarding the drain holes, two drains seem to have lost their covers at some stage. One has a metal cover over it now and the other (to the left of the turnstiles) was a 1' x 2' x 1' deep hole with a cone lying in it!! we've managed to put a heavy duty plastic cover over it and fasten it into place so hopefully that'll stop any accidents.

I know people are trying to find a solution to this problem, but in my opinion i don't think the temporary post & chains will work because
trying to get a "few hundred" people to squeeze down a narrow separated area in the dark will be a challenge to say the least - most people will walk out down the middle for ease of exit away from the ground.
Only safe solution is to continue to hold back traffic until supporters on foot have vacated the road way (which will only be a few minutes).
If people don't want to wait, then they could consider parking on the many street spaces/Asda/Stollers etc ( discounting people with impaired disabilities/OAP's etc. )

I agree, have been thinking it doesnt take that long for the main crowd to disperse from around the popular side, can the people who park there not hang on 5 mins?
If they park there because they have elderly fans, or disabled fans, or people who struggle walking a distance with them, then surely they wont be rushing outside anyway?

They will spend longer battling the crowd than just hanging on a couple of minutes, save the stress too.

I'm not saying any of them three scenarios is an ideal solution but we've just tried to find one possible way to keep supporters happy and safe leaving or entering that area.
I suppose if people don't use the path then it'll have to be holding the cars back, but surely a bit of cooperation between supporters would be the best way in the long run.

Thanks Ian for sorting this out so quickly and trying to come up the some kind of solution. A little bit of common sense from those on foot and a bit of consideration from those that drive is the real solution.

Yeah i see your side, cant win really! If only people would just not complain and wait 5 minutes to set off, they will spend just as much time and a lot more stress battling through a few hundred people with their car. #Chillout

Still the simplest thing is to hold the drivers back, and if they complain then its their own fault for parking in such a restricting place, park on a local side street and you will be away no problem.

Non-car users could always be directed towards the corner exit. There will still be a bit of a melee where the cars exit onto the main road but that will never change.

Congratulations for the chained grand prix track first to Holker Street junctions wins, start your Mercedes don't bother fastening your seat belt and away you go, oh and hit your horn passing the gate with people coming out.
Great planning, stop parking at the back of the Wilkie Stand, there is plenty of parking on the Mean Streets of Hindpool or Stollers Car Park.
