I agree with you Chris.
I listen to sportstalk most Friday evenings on radio Cumbria and for me its made that little bit more interesting when Paul or Andrew Casson are on the show,in this case both of them.
As I say, I agree with you Chris in terms of 'not' agreeing with Paul when he thought that the ground as it is, "Looks Good".
For me,it wasn't so much what he said in terms of him thinking that the ground "Looked Good" but, why he chose to say it given what he has said in the past about new stands, roof on H St etc etc.
Why, all of a sudden, would a person who was once full of fervor and passion in terms of talking about building a new ground, change tack and start to become nostalgic for Holker Street. I do agree with him when he says that some of the new and modernised grounds that he and many of us have seen lack character and warmth but,at least these modernised places keep you dry for the most part and offer decent, modern facilities. With the greatest of respect,I doubt very much if we will ever see any real modernisation of Holker Street when it comes to new stands. This is what I meant in terms of not what he said, but how he said it. I think Paul's nostalgic fondness of Holker Street as it is has now become a cover for not having any work on new stands done at all.
Don't get me wrong, I am not naive enough to appreciate that if it hadn't have been for Paul taking control of the club,we probably wouldn't have a club right now, for that I am thankful and I thank him. But, now and again when I stand on the decaying terraces at Holker Street, especially when the wind and rain are sweeping in from the Irish Sea,and I see mostly a handful, sometimes a couple of hundred or more of away supporters stood on their allocated section of the 'Holker End' being battered and soaked, some of the more traveled ones amongst them dressed appropriately for the occasion-sadly most are not-young and old alike-I find it embarrassing and distressing to say the least- that people should have to put up with such disgraceful treatment in terms of no shelter and after toilet washing facilities.
God knows our town has taken some stick in the past and now, the football ground is slowly taking on the mantle of one of the worst grounds to pay a visit to.
Floodlights, yes, spot on, brilliant. Somewhat akin to sticking Dreamliner wings on a Gypsy Moth.

Rome was not built in a day. Unfortunately Mr Casson obviously got caught up in the emotion of saving his home town club and wanting to propel us forward to the football league.
I think that now he understands whilst wanting to put lids on stands and build new stands you sometimes have to take stock.
Firstly it is no good having a ground to be envious off when we are really only taking baby steps at trying to push the club in the right direction. We need stability on the field first. By this I mean Ady and Grant to have a couple of years building the side into a shoe in Top 10 team every year.
The cracks of our old ground will constantly need papering over but the playing side has to be on a good footing.
Only then can he say now lets look at building a stand at the crossbar end that will start to bring some money in.
Remember he is a wealthy guy with good business sense BUT he does not have pockets as deep as the Fylde and especially the Salford owner. Both these teams have no history so jumping straight in was easier for them. How would everybody liked it if PC had come along flattened the Ground and ploughed money into building new stands and have absolutely no money for the playing side.
We would be back in the dark days of 400 people possibly watching a Barrow side battle Workington or Lancaster more rungs down the pyramid.
At least this way we are one step from the football league with the dream still alive.

That makes sense! Will it happen? I doubt it.

I've lost my all my optimism concerning the ground. Nothing's going to happen. I think we all need to realise that now.
It really annoys me when AFC Fylde and Fleetwood continue to prosper and now we see Salford making plans for their entry into the FL.

We were promised great things when Paul Casson took over.
Nothing' s happened and I now firmly believe nothing ever will.
Holker Street is a Morgue because everyone finally realises that our hopes, dreams and ambitions are now dead.
Barrow AFC have been sold down the river...
Stop moaning. You have been given permission to bring your drum to the ground so what more do you want, Some people are never satisfied.
My drum? I don't own a drum. Quite a few guitars, though... :D

Looks Good? Holker Street? How could he have made that statement without feeling embarassed?
Holker Street is a S**t H**e!

Paul Casson's 'Dream' is looking more each day like the no hope legacy that the Keen family left us with.
New Stadium? Football League status? Ya havin' a laff, Paul!

Rooftop refers only to the outer, visible part of the structure, so rooves would indeed be the correct term in this case...

The biggest positive about current Holker Street is the proximity of the stands to the pitch and the fact that you can walk pretty much around the entire ground. Modern / redeveloped grounds often have 4 separated stands which are set quite far back from the pitch which can seperate fans and dilute atmosphere. Yes there is no atmosphere at Holker Street now, but I think that's s more to do with not enough fans joining in rather than the fact we've got no roof at one end (which is often cited as a reason for poor atmosphere).

Agreed.

Pretty good atmosphere that balmy/barmy night we smashed Oxford; not had much to shout about since.

It was indeed. Also when the Edmo team presented the National League North Trophy the stand was rocking. I was left thinking- this atmosphere is magic, why can't it be like this for a league game?
