I agree with you Chris.barrowfan_chris wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 11:17 am I think its always going to be a case of just little bits that have to be done I can't ever see us getting a new stand/s.
Just didn't agree with the Casson comment it looks good![]()
I listen to sportstalk most Friday evenings on radio Cumbria and for me its made that little bit more interesting when Paul or Andrew Casson are on the show,in this case both of them.
As I say, I agree with you Chris in terms of 'not' agreeing with Paul when he thought that the ground as it is, "Looks Good".
For me,it wasn't so much what he said in terms of him thinking that the ground "Looked Good" but, why he chose to say it given what he has said in the past about new stands, roof on H St etc etc.
Why, all of a sudden, would a person who was once full of fervor and passion in terms of talking about building a new ground, change tack and start to become nostalgic for Holker Street. I do agree with him when he says that some of the new and modernised grounds that he and many of us have seen lack character and warmth but,at least these modernised places keep you dry for the most part and offer decent, modern facilities. With the greatest of respect,I doubt very much if we will ever see any real modernisation of Holker Street when it comes to new stands. This is what I meant in terms of not what he said, but how he said it. I think Paul's nostalgic fondness of Holker Street as it is has now become a cover for not having any work on new stands done at all.
Don't get me wrong, I am not naive enough to appreciate that if it hadn't have been for Paul taking control of the club,we probably wouldn't have a club right now, for that I am thankful and I thank him. But, now and again when I stand on the decaying terraces at Holker Street, especially when the wind and rain are sweeping in from the Irish Sea,and I see mostly a handful, sometimes a couple of hundred or more of away supporters stood on their allocated section of the 'Holker End' being battered and soaked, some of the more traveled ones amongst them dressed appropriately for the occasion-sadly most are not-young and old alike-I find it embarrassing and distressing to say the least- that people should have to put up with such disgraceful treatment in terms of no shelter and after toilet washing facilities.
God knows our town has taken some stick in the past and now, the football ground is slowly taking on the mantle of one of the worst grounds to pay a visit to.
Floodlights, yes, spot on, brilliant. Somewhat akin to sticking Dreamliner wings on a Gypsy Moth.
