Whing replacement?

Clearly McDonald was brought in as a hedge/future caretaker manager (as was Rob Kelly but he left) when it was clear it wasn’t working with Whing.

The issues around the stadium aren’t going away; it’s true it’s not up to L2 standards and this needs addressing or at least starting the conversations around it.

We’ll never truly “feel” like we belong here until we have a stadium that befits league status.

Opening up old and difficult conversations around council ownership and sharing with Raiders need to be had - even if they’re subsequently ruled out.

Other clubs manage to raise the necessary eg Wukkie!
The town fund that’s being spend on a new market hall could have been allocated towards a stadium; but we didn’t pursue that option. I don’t know the ins and outs of the EFL grant funding etc and I’m not privy to any inside information but other clubs have managed it.

Is it time to bite the bullet and have the conversation?


If they owners feel their’s a general consensus around this subject then they could look into it but while it remains controversial they probably won’t bother.

It needs a proper public consultation. Regardless of current ownership. Wrong thread for this subject but it definitely needs discussion.

As for Whing replacement. I think we've got a decent squad, but deffo some square pegs in round holes. The club need to decide a footballing identity, stick with it and base all future Management and recruitment on that. Whoever it is needs 100% confidence. With all due respect to Andy Whing I think in the end (last interview) the pressure had got to him.

Matt Broomfield would be another Evatt but I don't think he'd come but he'd get us playing football again!

Personally feel that you want the new gaffer in straight away so he can work out his comings and going’s. There’s obviously been some doubts for a while now over whing

Absolute fat NO for Derek Adams, throws players under the bus any chance he gets, another Mark Cooper sort of character..... gets results but when it gets tough starts the excuses, no chance.

No for Bruce ,Adams did ok went to Bradford then sacked back to Morecambe relegated not sure if it was lack of finance
Steve Evans seems to bully players to motivate them but like Sheridan.
Wether he has the same aggression not sure.
It's obvious Whing was a nice guy and probably taken advantage of by some players.
If I was a player against Tranmere I would not be shaking hands after there diving antics more of a Glasgow kiss .

That’s true, but 3 of those (Rob Kelly x2 and Phil Brown) were short term/temporary contracts.

Michael Jolley’s short spell was a disaster.

Mark Cooper was rubbish.

Pete Wild did well, but had to go for off the field reasons.

Stephen Clemence poor, but also unlucky with injuries.

Similar can be said for Andy Whing, it wasn’t great, but also unlucky with injuries at times. 3 months without a home win can’t really be allowed to let slide, and we have been slipping for sure.

Whing also catastrophically unlucky in those last two games against Wigan and Tranmere. His team competed well generally speaking in those games and the woeful lack of fire power demonstrated had been a problem long before his time with us. Them's the breaks unfortunately.
