Can remember sitting on the wall near the HS end and Tommy Cahill coming over to retrieve a ball. Was hit by the strong smell of wintergreen ( the liniment not our forum member) and thinking this is what professional footballers smell like.

I didn’t get to the game but my father did and came home to tell me about our No 8 Jackie Robertson stooping around Billy Wright and heading our first goal. Left Wright opened mouthed he said. I saw Robertson quite a few times and he is still the best header of a ball I’ve seen at HS.

Stockton was brought in last season because the strikers at the time were not good enough. We’ve still got the same strikers and………they still ain’t good enough. I know Newby is not a striker but would be interested to know when he last scored. Maybe Methuselah could tell us, if he’s old enough.
